Here’s what Jo wrote “What an absolute gem! Tucked away in a tiny hamlet, it’s remote, the only noises are birds, sheep and the occasional dog. Eildon was a wonderful host- and a great cook! A brilliant welcome and delicious slap-up dinner. The house is beautiful, some impressive Edwardian features (stunning antique shower that works better than most modern ones). I genuinely would urge anyone to stay here if they’re in Northumberland. Alnwick and other coastal spots an easy drive away and perfect for day-tripping but you really get a sense of the beauty of the national park in this spot too. Thanks Eildon!” 2018

If you want peace and tranquillity then this is your place to stay.magnificent scenery, cosy cottage with books a plenty to read.lashings of hot water .brilliant breakfast and exceedingly good and interesting hosts.thank you so much for a wonderful place to stay.we will surely return trip advisor review 5th August 2018

“Eildon was a perfect host, with a warm welcome and a beautiful home to match this was just the experience I hoped for. Such a picturesque landscape you are surrounded by mountains, the ideal location to get away from it all. I would highly recommend to take the option of supper, foodies will not be disappointed, this was such a stunning meal with the perks of many items grown in the garden, with a predominantly homemade spread it was a real treat at the end of a long day. The room was very special and as described, with the full goose mattress, duvet and pillow i havent slept in such softness it was truly delightful. Touches of tradition and attention to detail, with matching tea sets in the room, I felt like a little princess. If remote location in the magic of northumberland is what your after then this place is definitely worth every penny.” Zara from Cambridge 30/9/15

Wow wow and wow. After a good stomp through from Mount Hooly we arrived rather muddy and windswept to a wonderfully friendly welcome at Hethpool House. Cups of tea, home made short bread and a gorgeous roaring fire instantly relaxed the muscules and revived the feet! Eildon, Martin and family made us very welcome and we relaxed straight away into the comfort of their lovely home, enjoying long deep fabulously warm baths before dinner.

A magnificent 3 course meal made our evening, gorgeous home made soup and bread to start, a succulent chicken and rice dish for our main (a dish changed at our requested by a non fish lover…nothing seemed to phase Eildon) and finally home made tiramisu for dessert!

A great nights sleep in extremely comfortable beds with bed linen that kept you snug all night. All in all our stay at Hethpool House made our St Cuthberts walk and propelled us on to the finish.

Thank you!

“Imagine your very own mini Baronial hall as your playground, with a glorious private Northumbrian valley all to yourselves. This is what awaits at Hethpool, an Arts & Crafts house built in extravagant style, with turrets aplenty. Explore the wilderness of heath and moorland before returning to cosy up by the fire then sampling one of Eildon’s delicious home cooked-suppers-Tweed salmon, perhaps, or local grouse, accompanied by vegetables from the garden, Eildon will even bring your meal to your own private dining room in the summerhouse, a secluded little timber building on the banks of a small lake. If you ride they can even do B&B for the horses!”

“Lovely remote cottage. The scenery was quite stunningly beautiful, with well marked rural footpaths accessible from the bottom of the pretty garden. The beds were extremely comfy and there was a lovely cosy open fire to slump in front of in a contented manner. Eildon’s own house is about 50 meters away and we took her up on her offer of Breakfast over in the main house at a cost of £6.00 per head (just about the best £6.00 per head I have ever spent). As an added bonus, there was large homemade chocolate cake waiting for us in the kitchen of the cottage. We are quite obviously looking forward to returning.” Alasdair 15/4/19

If I had to draw a picture of paradise it would very much look like Hethpoolhouse and the lovely landscape of Northumberland. the two trees standing in the field like two eternal lovers, the rounded hills surround you, and welcome you for a walk. Resting in front of the fireplace and being served. What more do you need? Marcel & Brigid Holland 8/8/17

Absolutely charming! A wonderful characterful house so different than the new and modern. It’s a joy to experience a place that is truly someone’s home. I love the ‘antique bathroom’, the knockers on all the bedroom doors, the lovely old furniture, don’t change anything about this quirky and interesting place! Fran from Dorset 25/7/17

“It was a very stormy day yesterday, but you received us with the fire already burning! Your dinner was absolutely great. We started with the cheese souflle [I can recommend that to anyone] and the wild duck was delicious. The fact that you could tell us when, where and by whom it was shot , must be unique.”

What a place! From the minute we arrived it was heaven. The jumping fish my favourite and the wonderful country side. The shower was a complete joy, topped off by the incredible food, just bliss.

“The wettest June on record and we do the St.Cuthbert’s way! Hoorah for excellent b&b and especially the wonderful food there. Beautiful location in a beautiful part of the world, sitting up in bed wuth a cup of tea in the morning, contemplating the day’s walking and looking out of the windows at the hills-perfect!”

It took special friends from Australia to discover Hethpool and now we do not want to leave. We felt relaxed within minutes and totally at home. Eildon’s food was superb, and we would loved to kidnap the dogs. A very special place.

“The food that Eildon prepares is so good, it’s worth the stay alone, but the truth us, everything about this place is fantastic, especially the warm reception and the fact that nothing seems to be too much trouble. The countryside ain’t bad either! Look forward to coming again soon with our newborn.”

Staying at Hethpool House was one of the most magical experiences we have ever had. The wild unspoilt beauty of Northumbria, a stunning setting for a beautiful home. Feather pillows, log fires, superb food, fresh flowers, amazing hospitality and peace by the shed load!! Eildon and Martin were the most warm, witty and friendly hosts and they were so generous in the sharing of their home and knowledge of the area. It was a real privilege to stay at Hethpool and we will certainly return. If you are looking for something very special….look no further!!

We forget how many times we have stayed here at least 4/5 now, but it begins to feel like a home-coming. This is such a precious place, amongst these extraordinary hills, with the stream cascading below, and such hosts. Such a welcome. Such exquisite food our thanks for all this..

Paul & Sally Barker, London

A truly enchanting place with excellent hospitality, delicious food and superb room. Probably the best “b&b” of all on our many travels – St Cuthbert would have loved it!

John & Maggie Pierce, Wiltshire - 12th July 2014

A beautiful place to walk into and stay. Loved the house and the old walled garden. I wish we could stay longer but we are only halfway through the St.Cuthbert’s Way. I hope to return.

Anne & Tim, Canberra ,Australia - 30th September

We, like so many others, stayed with Eildon and Martin for only 1 night on our way to Edinburgh. We arrived in the late afternoon and were warmly greeted and shown to our rooms, then, off to the sitting room for the best cuppa ever made in front of a roaring log fire. Eildon made us feel right at home in this true b&b. The countryside is beautiful and the roads narrow, but well worth the trip.

Very, very highly recommended and should we ever venture back to the UK, this will be one place we will stay for longer than 1 night.

Tim & Anne,Australia - 30th September

The real up side of this B&B are the hosts. Eildon is an amazing lady. After the first evening of getting to know her she makes you feel like one of the family and has a great sense of humour. Nothing seemed too much trouble for her, each evening she would ask what was required for breakfast and I believe you could ask for just about anything and she would oblige! One of the other guests asked for scrambled egg with chopped up smoked salmon mixed in and that’s exactly what he got. Martin was also great at advising on where to visit and where to eat.

Mike & Christine, Suffolk - 10th August 2014

I stayed with Eildon and Martin for 3 lovely days in early June which were blessed with lovely weather, but even if it would have been otherwise, the location, and the hosts would have made the vacation days truly memorable. As it was, with weather added in, it was a simply perfect holiday!

The house is lovely, and the food scrumptious…but for me, it is the dogs, who were so pleasant to be around really made the B&B feel like a home and not some cold hotel! Not much more to add other than the stay was wonderful, and I’d recommend Hethpool to my friends…and I hope to be lucky enough to be able to go back again!

Mike from Shanghai - 6th June 2014

Designed in the Arts & Crafts style, so anyone with Staying with Eildon was a joy. The house is stunning. It was built in the 1920s and is an eye for 20th Century rural architecture will find this building truly fascinating. The grounds of the house are gorgeous and set in a remote, beautiful valley. Eildon cooks fantastic food and there is always a bottle of great wine in her sellar. Finally, they have three lovely dogs who will happily curl up in front of the log fire late into the evening. Highly recommended.

Daniel from Somerset - 6th June 2014

Eildon runs a lovely B&B in a remote and beautiful location in north-east England. She was welcoming, friendly and helpful throughout and cooked us a fantastic breakfast.

Highly recommended!
